Jason Isbell is just days out from the release of his new album, Something More Than Free, and the singer-songwriter is already reaping the rewards of his fifth full-length.

Something More Than Free debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Folk Albums charts. What’s more, Isbell’s latest LP landed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Top Country Albums chart. It’s a benchmark moment for Isbell, whose critically acclaimed 2013 effort, Southeastern, peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard 200.

Isbell's newly-minted album arrived earlier this month via his own Southeastern Records, a Thirty Tigers imprint. The erstwhile Drive-By Truckers member celebrated his newfound success in a tweet to the label -- and by spinning some Nirvana, of course.

Isbell has been having a pretty remarkable go of things as of late. This past weekend, he played a standout set at this year’s Newport Folk Festival, which can be heard in full at this location. While in Rhode Island, he was also given the chance to play the very same electric guitar that Bob Dylan played at the festival exactly 50 years prior.
