Singer-songwriter Jason Isbell has a storied career in all things Americana. From his days with Drive-by Truckers and on through his shining solo years, his roots have always been crystal clear. So, it really shouldn't come as a surprise to hear he's tackled an obscure Lynyrd Skynyrd number.

Isbell teams up with the legendary southern rockers on their new live release, One More For the Fans, which was recorded during an all-star tribute concert last November that featured a who's who of rock and country acts tipping their hat to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

"Jason has great respect for the legacy of southern rock," Skynyrd's Gary Rossington told Rolling Stone. "We loved that he picked our song 'I Know a Little' to perform."

"I Know a Little" originally appeared on the band's Street Survivors back in 1977. Rossington, the last surviving member of the original Skynyrd lineup, went on to praise Isbell's playing: "His guitar solos were spot on — he's a great player."

Meanwhile, Isbell's new album, Something More Than Free, is set for release this Friday, July 17.
