In honor of this year's back to school season, JCPenney recently released a new commercial featuring the appropriately titled tune 'Get Ready' by Mayer Hawthorne.

Hawthorne (whose real name is Andrew Mayer Cohen) unveiled the song heard in the JCPenney commercial, which is a cover of the original Temptations single, on Aug. 21 via Universal Republic. 'Get Ready' follows his latest studio album, 'How Do You Do,' released in October 2011.

His song 'Henny and Gingerale' – a digital bonus cut addition to 'How Do You Do,' available on iTunes – could have made good commercial material as well, considering the heavy product placement of Hennessy cognac in the music video.

Another track by Hawthorne, 'Your Easy Lovin' Ain't Pleasin' Nothin'' – featured on his 2009 debut album, 'A Strange Arrangement' – made an appearance on the fourth season finale of the popular TV series 'Ugly Betty.' Additionally, his 7-inch single 'When I Said Goodbye,' which came out in 2008 via Stones Throw Records, was included in a short film collaboration by Kanye West and Spike Jonze by the name of ‘We Were Once a Fairytale.’

Hawthorne is scheduled to perform at several North American tour stops this fall. Check out his official website for more details.
