Listen to Jenny Lewis’ New Beck-Produced Single, ‘Just One of the Guys’
It’s been a few years since Jenny Lewis has released any new music. Her old band, Rilo Kiley, released an album of outtakes and leftovers last year. And Lewis put out a record with her boyfriend, singer-songwriter Johnathan Rice, in 2010 under the name Jenny and Johnny.
But her last solo album was 2008’s ‘Acid Tongue.’ But she’s all set to release her third solo record next month. And she’s just unleashed the first single from ‘The Voyager,’ ‘Just One of the Guys,’ which you can listen to below, via Spotify.
A couple years ago, Lewis resisted the idea of settling down and becoming a parent. But from the sound of things, she’s getting quite introspective about such matters these days, musing, “There’s only one difference between you and me / When I look at myself all I can see / I’m just another lady without a baby.”
The song was produced by Beck, a fact that Lewis pointed out on Twitter earlier today.

Most of ‘The Voyager’ was produced by Ryan Adams. Rice also produced a track. The album, which comes out on July 29, deals with the death of Lewis’ estranged father as well as the breakup of Rilo Kiley, the band that catapulted the former child actress into the hearts of indie boys everywhere.
“Making ‘The Voyager’ got me through one of the most difficult periods of my life,” Lewis notes in a press release. “After Rilo Kiley broke up and a few really intense personal things happened, I completely melted down. It nearly destroyed me. I had such severe insomnia that, at one point, I didn’t sleep for five straight nights. Many of the songs on ‘The Voyager’ came out of the need to occupy my mind in the moments when I just couldn’t shut down.”
