Jeremy Michael Ward was an integral part of Mars Volta -- although you wouldn't know it if you happened to catch them live during his three-year stint with the experimental-prog outfit. Ward was a behind-the-scenes guy, contributing to their music with loops, samples and soundscapes that he crafted through an extensive arsenal of effects pedals and processors that he manipulated while sitting offstage. His time on this earth was cut short when, on May 25, 2003, he tragically passed away from a drug overdose just months before the release of Volta's debut album, 'De-Loused in the Comatorium.'
