Since Civil Wars went their separate ways, Joy Williams has been busy, and today (March 31) the singer-songwriter shared a brand-new song, "Woman (Oh Mama)."

With "Oh mama" on the hook, this new track sets her apart from her Civil War days; it's more upbeat and encompasses a completely different sound. The sassy and soulful tune is an empowering one that celebrates females: "Let me show you where life begins / I am the universe wrapped in skin / I am the moon in the midnight sky / I am secret you try to hide."

“The entire song is what it's like to experience the beauty, the spark and strength of what it is to be inside your skin," Williams says in a statement. "It’s a song with energy and fire. I wanted to own the complexity and the three dimensional aspect of what it is to be a woman. ‘I am a universe wrapped in skin’ … that’s one of my favorite lines from the new album. I’m excited about being a woman. I’m excited to be where I am now, who I am now.”

Aside from her own solo work, she also teamed up with Paramore on "Hate to See Your Heart Break," which appears on Paramore: Self-Titled Deluxe.

"Woman (Oh Mama)" is the latest single off her upcoming album, VENUS, set for release sometime in the summer via Sensibility Music/Columbia Records. Prior to the LP's release, Williams will be doing three special shows to give fans a preview of what's to come. She's playing Islington Assembly Hall in London on May 6, the Gramercy Theatre in New York City on May 14 and El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on May 19. You can get more information on the shows and grab your tickets, starting on April 1, at her website.

"Woman (Oh Mama)" is available on iTunes now.
