Producer Flying Lotus has been taking over hosting duties on BBC Radio 1 once a month, and on his show yesterday (April 9), he interviewed rapper and his own oft-collaborator, Kendrick Lamar. The pair even shared their new collaboration on “Eyes Above” -- listen to the new track below, and the entire interview here.

Flying Lotus also spoke to Lamar about his latest release, To Pimp a Butterfly.

“[To Pimp a Butterfly came from] me collecting every bit of music I’ve learned to live with and love since the day I was born,” Lamar said. “My father’s influences from oldies to gangster rap. That was it for me and not being in fear to show these influences.”

“A lot of artists get to a point where we like to stay redundant, we like to stay compromising what we really want to do,” he continued. “And I said I wasn’t going to do that with this album. I give that advise to any artist out there: Do what your heart tells you to do, because the rewards is even that much more better.”

To Pimp a Butterfly follows Lamar’s 2012 sophomore effort, Good Kid, MAAD City. In addition to his third long-player, Lamar has also been keeping busy as the new face of Reebok's latest ad campaign, which you can see here.
