Last night (Feb. 16), singer and multi-instrumentalist Kaoru Ishibashi – better recognized by his stage moniker, Kishi Bashi – made his debut on the Late Show With David Letterman, where he performed “Philosophize in It! Chemicalize With It!”, the lead single off his most recent solo album.

Known for his masterful violin skills and wild effects, Kishi Bashi brought it all to the Letterman stage last night. Just when you think it can’t get anymore elaborate, Bashi swiftly moves from a looped beat box to an impressive violin solo around the 2:20 mark. As Letterman aptly observes afterward, there was “a lot going on there.” Watch the performance for yourself in the video up above.

Bashi put out his sophomore solo album, Lighght, last year, following his debut effort, 2012’s 151a. Previously, Bashi was a key player for the Kevin Barnes-led psych-pop outfit, Of Montreal, and indie-pop star, Regina Spektor.

Bashi has a handful of dates left in his U.S. tour, with stops scheduled for Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Brooklyn. Check out details here.
