Watch the Lemon Twigs Perform With Todd Rundgren at Coachella

Despite being fronted by a pair of teenage brothers, the Lemon Twigs reached deep into the history of rock during their set at Coachella yesterday. For their final song, they brought out wizard and true star Todd Rundgren.

They performed "Couldn't I Just Tell You," a song that originally appeared on 1972's Something/Anything, the double-record that featured his two biggest hits, "I Saw the Light" and "Hello It's Me." Yahoo! Music reports that Michael D'Addario called Rundgren out by referring to him as one of their favorite artists of all-time.

Formed in Hicksville, N.Y., the same Long Island town where Billy Joel was raised, the Lemon Twigs are comprised of multi-instrumentalists Brian and Michael D'Addario and augmented in live performances by bassist Megan Zeankowski and keyboardist Danny Ayala. Their acclaimed debut, Do Hollywood, was released last October and revealed a strong love of '70s rock and pop. It was produced by Jonathan Rado of Foxygen.

Rundgren is prepping the May 12 release of White Knight, a record that finds him collaborating with a wide variety of artists. Earlier this week, he released "Deaf Ears," a song that he wrote with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails. The lyrics have an environmental theme, which Rundgren feels is necessary. “It’s a depressing time, so sometimes depressing times call for confrontational material,” he said. “Facing up to reality is a pain. And it does have a contemporary element, especially as the EPA has been taken over by disbelievers. The principal theme for me of ‘Deaf Ears’ is, of course, the destruction we’re doing to our own habitat.”
