Linkin Park were last night (Nov. 19) honored at the 2017 American Music Awards when they received the Favorite Artist - Alternative Rock gong, and dedicated the win to their late frontman Chester Bennington, who took his own life in July at the age of 41.

His colleagues Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon and Brad Delson accepted the award after Linkin Park beat out fellow nominees Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots. “First of all, thank you so much to all the fans here and around the world who voted for the band, who have supported the band through thick and thin,” Shinoda said from the stage.

Referring to the other acts in the category, he continued: “I got a chance to talk to those guys, who said really wonderful things about Chester. And they were similar to the things that our fans said all around the world about him. And we want to dedicate this award to him, to his memory, to his talent, to his sense of humor, to his joy.

“Remember you guys, all of you, tonight, whether you’re a fan on an artist – I want you guys to take a moment to appreciate what you’ve got and make Chester proud.”

Linkin Park will release an album entitled One More Light Live on Dec. 15. Last month, they played an all-star tribute show to Bennington at the Hollywood Bowl. That night, they debuted a new song, "Looking for an Answer," about Bennington's death, with Shinoda on vocals.
