As previously announced, Nickel Creek’s Sara and Sean Watkins’ long-standing L.A. variety show, the Watkins Family Hour, will release their eponymous debut later this month. The upcoming album will feature a collection of covers, and the band has now unveiled its second cut. Listen to their rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Brokedown Palace” below:

Once you take their version for a spin, compare it to the original below.

The Watkins Family Hour is due out July 24 via Family Hour Records. It will also include covers of Bob Dylan’s “Going Going Gone” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Steal Your Heart Away” (the latter of which can be heard here). The album will also boast contributions from Fiona Apple, Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and more.

The Watkins siblings and company will take their show on the road, starting with the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island on the day of the album’s release. From there, they’ll take up two-night residencies in New York City; Nashville; Chicago; Berkeley, Calif.; and Seattle, plus a stop in Portland. The tour will feature a rotating cast of performers, much like the Watkins Family Hour’s L.A. show. Get more details below:
