Lorde Drops New Single ‘No Better’

Late last night, Lorde pulled a Beyonce and dropped a surprise new single, ‘No Better,’ via iTunes. Much like her breakout hit, ‘Royals,’ the song is minimalist hip-hop-tinged pop, and it comes complete with a fine motto for 2014 — unless this preternaturally clever New Zealand teen is being sarcastic.

“Go all the way,” Lorde sings. “Have your fun / Have it all.” Whether she actually wants the song’s subject to do so, there’s no question she‘s gone all the way, had her fun and had it all in 2013. The 17-year-old has been racking up the accolades, both for ‘Royals’ (our No. 2 song of the year) and the album ‘Pure Heroine.’ Next month, she’ll compete for four trophies at the Grammys, and in a stroke of luck, she didn’t get a Best New Artist nod, so there’s a chance she’ll stick around for a while.
