Lorde looked like she could barely keep it together when Katy Perry beat her for ‘Best Female Video’ at the VMAs, but she only had to wait about an hour before getting her chance to romp on-stage to accept her own award.

The 17-year-old New Zealand songstress won ‘Best Rock Video’ for ‘Royals,’ beating out her decidedly testosterone-laden competition: Arctic Monkeys, the Black Keys, Imagine Dragons and Linkin Park.

Unshockingly dressed in all black, Lorde made only a three-sentence speech, but still managed to slip in a curse word. “This is really crazy and I’m super grateful,” she said. “I want to thank my video director Joel Kefali and my friends from school who were in the video. Oh s—, and everyone who voted. Thank you so much.”

While Lorde was a winner in the rock category, Katy Perry bested her for ‘Best Female Video’ honors. In the ‘Best Male Video’ category, Ed Sheeran won over the likes of Sam Smith and Eminem.
