Machine Birds hail from Bergen, Norway. The duo of Maria Skranes and Marte Eberson make gorgeous, synth-laden dreamscapes that they're debuting on the 'Save Yourself' EP. Today we get a free download of the stunner 'If I.'

Machine Birds' music recalls the dreamy sound of the Cocteau Twins, but it's got a darker, more sinister edge. The single 'If I' is all about heartbreak, and Skranes says the sound was partially inspired by 'Twin Peaks.'

"The song 'If I' came out of tears in the middle of the night," Skranes tells Diffuser.fm. "It's a very personal song about a secret and toxic love affair. We added synth strings and a 'Twin Peaks'-influenced bass line (the preset on the synth we used is actually called Lynch,so we HAD to use it) -- and we are really happy about the pompous and mysterious result."

Grab 'If I' below, and watch out for Machine Birds' debut, 'Save Yourself.'
