Did you see Future Islands' big return to the Late Show with David Letterman this week? They played their powerful new song, "The Chase," and while it isn't quite as conducive to the sort of speed-skating gyrations that "Seasons: Waiting on You" is, frontman Samuel T. Herring still tore up the stage one more time as part of Letterman's last run.

In this installment of Mandatory Music, we've got the B-side from "The Chase" – a much more somber tune – along with a Blind Melon cover from My Morning Jacket's Jim James, another new song from Killers frontman Brandon Flowers' upcoming solo album, a track from Titus Andronicus' recently announced rock opera and the first new music from Refused since 1998.
