It's probably never too early to start on your summer playlist and this week's Mandatory Music has five solid contenders.

Metric announced they'll release the follow-up to 2012's Synthetica with the premiere of the addictive single, "The Shade"; the Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. shared an upbeat track from his upcoming third solo album (and his first not to be released by Julian Casablancas' label); one of David Letterman's favorite bands, Dawes, previewed a song from their next album; Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin channel Weezer on "Line on You" from The High Country; and rapper Astronautalis posted a song that didn't make the cut for his upcoming record, but it's one you should definitely check out:
