Get ready to rejoice, Mars Volta fans: Former bandmates Omar Rodriguez Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala have announced a reunion of sorts. The pair is teaming up with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea for a new project called Antemasque.

The announcement came in the form of a tweet from Rodriguez Lopez, with a link to a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it trailer featuring audio of the new act in the recording studio. It was followed by a slightly longer video of the trio rehearsing with drummer Dave Elitch. You can watch the video above.

The news may come as surprise, considering Mars Volta’s early-2013 break-up didn’t appear amicable when Bixler tweeted, “I tried my hardest to keep it going … I can’t sit here and pretend any more. I no longer am a member of Mars Volta.”

Lucky for us, the rift doesn’t appear to be permanent. No word on when the new music will be available from this new supergroup, but from the snippets captured in the video, it sounds like they're picking up pretty close to where they left off.
