Martin Scorsese Set to Direct Ramones Movie, Documentary Also in the Works

Over the weekend, fans of the Ramones gathered together at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery for the Johnny Ramone Tribute’s 10th Anniversary. The event was hosted by hard-rocker Rob Zombie and included a live concert of Ramones songs featuring Zombie, Billy Idol, the Sex Pistols‘ Steve Jones, Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses and comedian Fred Armisen. On the heels of the celebration, co-manager of the Ramones’ estate, Jeff Jampol, unveiled some exciting news for fans.

“We’re looking at a documentary on the Ramones, we just secured a ton of footage, much of which has never been seen before,” Jampol recently told Billboard. “It came from the Ramones on the road over the years in the ’70s and a little bit in the ’80s.”

In addition to the documentary, Jampol says that they are planning a “theatrical play, a book and a film.” Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese has reportedly been tapped to direct the film.

This won’t be Scorsese’s first foray into rock and roll. In 2008, he directed the documentary, ‘Shine a Light,’ which captured an ’06 performance by the Rolling Stones in New York City. Just a few years before that, he filmed ‘No Direction Home,’ the documentary about the life and musical impact of Bob Dylan. And in 1978, he chronicled one of the Band‘s farewell concerts in ‘The Last Waltz.’

Since Scorsese’s movie will be a separate project from the planned documentary, who do you think the iconic director will cast to play the members of the Ramones?
