On July 1, 2014, Matt Nathanson gave his fans what they’ve been waiting for since his last studio album, ‘Last of the Great Pretenders’: brand-new music. Teaming up with Lolo, Nathanson released one of the most powerful songs of his career, ‘Headphones.’

The song touches listeners because of its message: Music is meaningful, music is important and music can make life better. And if there were any doubts about that, Nathanson shut them down when he partnered with Pandora to change the lives of some of a few lucky fans.

In their ongoing #ThumbMoments series, Pandora selected a handful of fans who had given Nathanson’s music a thumbs up -- and then they received the surprise of a lifetime when the singer-songwriter called them and performed ‘Headphones’ in what is likely the most intimate concert Nathanson has ever performed. You can see what happened in the video above.

It may be hard to believe, but Nathanson’s music has been impacting fans’ lives for more than two decades; his first studio album, ‘Please,’ hit the streets in 1993, and from there, he released seven more records, including his highest-charting LP to date, the aforementioned ‘Last of the Great Pretenders’ (it peaked at No. 2 on the Rock charts). With those records -- not to mention a handful of EPs, live albums and numerous singles -- Nathanson has reached a point in his life where he could forget about his fans and just focus on his career.

Lucky for us, that hasn’t happened.

We get the feeling these #ThumbMoments are just the beginning of the next stage of what Nathanson has in store for fans.
