Michael Stipe, Iggy Pop, Robby Krieger and other artists each custom designed Carparelli guitars that were auctioned off at Bonhams New York on Sunday, Nov. 9. The auction’s proceeds went to War Child USA, a network of humanitarian organizations dedicated to helping children in areas experiencing armed conflict.

Stipe, who named his six-string guitar, ‘Radiant Guitar,’ said, “No person, and certainly no child, should have to endure what many of these children have lived through, and in some cases still live in.” He added that he was “honored to be able to make a small contribution toward helping them.”

Musicians weren’t the only ones to design guitars for the auction. They were joined by filmmakers Gus Van Sant and Sam Taylor-Wood, comic book artist Steve McNiven and artist Shepard Fairey -- among others.
