Modest Mouse may have titled their 2007 album ‘We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank,’ but by placing a balloon in the artwork, it’s possible that not everyone perished in the boating incident described in the title — even if it is carrying an anchor.
In the animated version of this album cover, we find a more positive fate, as the balloon is apparently not weighted down by the anchor. Instead, it is able to cross the dark blue sky.
