Mumford and Sons Announce 2013 Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers

Mumford and Sons have shared the details of their 2013 Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers. The band will stage five of the special two-day performances, including three in the United States.

The Stopovers aren't just regular shows with a fancy name. Each "combines the intimacy of a community celebration with the excitement of a world-class music festival," according to a press release. This year's Stopovers will feature Friday night concerts, followed by all-day events on Saturday, capped with performances by Mumford and Sons. The other acts will be hand-picked by the band itself.

Meanwhile, smaller, concurrent events involving local business, venues and residents will take place in and around each town being, um, Stopover-ed, offering what the band hopes is a refreshing way to absorb local culture.

"The Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers are all about live music," the band said in a statement. "We get to put them on in towns not normally frequented by touring bands in buses or splitter vans. We deliberately look for towns that have something unique, or some vibe of which they are proud, explore them and enjoy what they have to offer."

Other acts slated to take part are Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, the Alabama Shakes, fun. and the Vaccines, with more to be announced. This year's host towns include Simcoe, Ontario; Troy, Ohio; Guthrie, Okla., and St. Augustine, Fla. Tickets go on sale on Feb. 8.
