The 2012 Newport Folk Festival has put together a solid lineup, with My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst, and Iron & Wine among those taking the stage on July 28-29 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island.

My Morning Jacket, Iron & Wine and Patty Griffin are the big names performing on Saturday the 28th, while Oberst and Jackson Browne cap off the Sunday lineup. Other notable names on the bill include Dawes, Deer Tick, Sharon Van Etten, Tune-Yards, Blind Pilot, Punch Brothers, The Head & The Heart, City and Colour, and Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman.

While other music fests have branched out and begun incorporating hip-hop and dance music, the Newport lineup stays true to its roots with a basic focus on folk music and Americana, with some classic rock and alt-rock tossed in. For the complete lineup, see the festival's official site.

The Newport Folk Festival began in 1959 and was the scene for Bob Dylan's infamous 1965 performance, where he performed with an electric guitar for the first time. Two-day passes for the 2012 event are available for $135 plus surcharges, while single-day passes run $74 each.
