With six albums under their belt, you'd think the National would have made it onto 'Saturday Night Live' by now. But the Brooklyn band just made their first appearance on the show last night.

And their debut was just as stellar as their reputation promised it would be. They performed two songs from their latest album, last year's 'Trouble Will Find Me': 'Graceless' and 'I Need My Girl.'

Typically, frontman Matt Berninger looked suave onstage with his eyes mostly closed during both performances. But two different sides of his personality came out on 'SNL.'

He played a gentler, brooding character while singing 'I Need My Girl.' But on 'Graceless,' he got more aggressive, even slamming the mic stand onto the stage floor a few times. You can watch 'Graceless' above; 'I Need More Girl' is below.
