It’s looking like April will be a strong month for new releases. And with the weather is starting to improve (even though for most of us it’s been a mild winter), we’re starting to get a glimpse of the albums that will be cranking out of our cars all summer long.

Naturally, everybody is looking forward to April 24, when Jack White releases his first solo album, ‘Blunderbuss’ on his own Third Man Records. The second single, ‘Secret Saltines,’ dropped this week. If you can’t wait a month to get a dose of guitar-based minimalism, April 3 sees the release of ‘Ugly,’ the fifth album by New Jersey’s Screaming Females.

Veterans make up a significant portion of the April new releases list, particularly on April 10. On that day, Counting Crows will release a covers album, 'Underwater Sunshine (or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation),' which shows them tackling songs by a diverse group of classic and current artists. Modern folk hero M. Ward also steps out from Zooey Deschanel's shadow with his first record in three years, 'A Wasteland Companion.' Veteran English space rockers Spiritualized will put out 'Sweet Heart Sweet Light,' their seventh full-length album.

Also coming out on April 10 is ‘Boys & Girls’ by Alabama Shakes, who have received a great deal of press lately for their garage-soul sound and electric live shows. Will they be able to translate the energy of their concerts in the studio? We’ll know the answer soon enough.
