Apparently, Not the Actual Events is just the tip of the iceberg for Nine Inch Nails. In a new interview, Trent Reznor said that he has a couple of projects lined up for the group in 2017.

Speaking to Zane Lowe of Apple Music (embedded below), he admitted that he was “teeing up the next quote” that he’ll “have to live up to,” he revealed that there are “two new major works” coming out next year. When pressed, he specified that they were both slated to be under the Nine Inch Nails “umbrella.” However, he said that live performances were “not in the immediate future, but we’re discussing it.”

He elaborated on his decision to make Atticus Ross, his longtime collaborator on film scores, a full-fledged member of the band. “Really, it’s an acknowledgement of respect and importance…and it’s accurate.” Later, he added that bringing in Ross, who participated in the interview to a small extent, was not a slight to the other musicians with whom Reznor works in Nine Inch Nails, but rather that it was about Ross “sitting in the studio in the creative process of it. [Touring musicians] Alessandro [Cortini], Robin [Finck] Ilan [Rubin] are complete part of the family. They just — they aren’t the guys sitting next to me, elbow-to-elbow for a year at a time.”

Nine Inch Nails released the Not the Actual Events EP today (Dec. 23), and you can stream it in its entirety here. It features contributions by Dave Grohl, Dave Navarro and Mariqueen Maandig, Reznor’s wife who sang in his side project, How to Destroy Angels. Last week, Reznor called the new release, “an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make,” adding that it’s only five songs because it “ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”
