Nine Inch Nails took to Twitter last night (June 5) to unveil their new single, 'Came Back Haunted' (listen below), and announce the Sept. 3 release of 'Hesitation Marks,' their first album since 2008. NIN mastermind Trent Reznor is no stranger to social media -- he won an Oscar for his 'Social Network' score, after all -- or savvy marketing, and already, the Internet is abuzz over the latest musical offering from the industrial legends.

'Came Back Haunted' is classic NIN: glitchy, aggressive and catchy as hell. Reznor is anything but rusty, and that makes sense, given his recent output. Since seemingly retiring the Nine Inch Nails brand in 2009, when he announced a "farewell tour," the brooding synth lord has kept busy scoring films and touring and recording with How to Destroy Angels, his side project with wife Mariqueen Maandig and movie collaborator Atticus Ross.

Earlier this year, Reznor blew mind and revealed that Nine Inch Nails had been working in secret on new music, though it wasn't until last night's tweets that fans knew when to expect the new record. While NIN diehards must now grit their teeth until Sept. 3, they might hear some more new tunes over the summer, as NIN make the festival rounds, performing at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and countless others.
