Not only did former Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher open U2‘s London Joshua Tree show Saturday, with his band High Flying Birds, but the Irish rockers later invited him back onstage to perform “Don’t Look Back in Anger” with them.

“Can we bring Noel Gallagher onstage? The kid’s a star, a rock n roll star. Thank you for your High Flying Birds… may you take us somewhere else, somewhere only you can,” Bono said, inviting him back out. At the close of the song, Gallagher dedicated it to “the people of Manchester, Grenfell Tower, London Bridge,” according to NME.

But first Bono had announced another surprise at the show, sharing the news that the band’s 57-year-old bassist Adam Clayton is expecting a baby with his wife.

In their opening slot, Gallagher’s High Flying Birds played a combination of songs from his solo albums as well as from the Oasis catalog.

His former bandmate Liam was predictably not a fan of the collaboration, and took to Twitter to continue throwing jabs at his little brother. “Nothing worse than being blanked by the naffest fans in the world as you were beige boy,” he tweeted yesterday, followed by “Corporate muck rkid yousde to call U2 funny eh how many special people change as you were.”

Liam will release his debut solo album As You Were in October, before Noel’s High Flying Birds album is tentatively scheduled for a November release.
