Surprising things are always coming out of Canada (I’m looking at you Rob Ford), including some of North America’s best rock ‘n’ roll bands. Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is home to Paper Lions -- and we’re pretty sure they’re going to be big.

The band’s new album 'My Friends' doesn’t come out until Aug. 20, but you can hear their single 'Philadelphia' right here. It’s an intricate mix between the Appalachian folk of Fleet Foxes, the fuzz mess of Surfer Blood and the L.A. pop of PAPA.

It’s a strange combo, but it totally works.

"'Philadelphia' is about our first family vacation to the USA,” singer Rob MacpHee tells Diffuser. “We got in a van, drove to Philly, didn't do much and went home. A decade and a half later, we wrote a song about it."

If you’ve ever been on a 12-hour car ride with your folks, may this rocker be a mental reprieve from that memory.
