Support for Pussy Riot from the Western rock community continues to grow in leaps and bounds, with Canadian electroclash musician Peaches -- and a slew of her famous indie friends like the Knife, Peter Bjorn and John, Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears and the Hives -- joining the cause.

Not only has Peaches launched a pro-Pussy Riot petition with more than 100,000 signatures on it, but she's also recorded a song in support of the band called 'Free Pussy Riot' that's accompanied by a video featuring the aforementioned Knife, PB&J, Shears and the Hives, plus a ton of other indie favorites including Lykke Li, Miike Snow, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Le Tigre/MEN's JD Samson and Kate Nash. Most of these artists are not identifiable in the video, however, because they are wearing Pussy Riot's trademark balaclavas.

Peaches also posted a statement about the Pussy Riot situation on her official website:

As a musician who has spoken out against political figures, I am deeply troubled that the Russian government is punishing its citizens for voicing their opinions through music. Music is an essential tool for voicing opinions about everything from gender to oppression. To outlaw the free expression of these ideas is to embrace tyranny. Letting artists speak is the hallmark of a free society. I've criticized world leaders in my music before, and I am dismayed that the artists expressing their opinions in Russia today are being harassed by their government. I am appalled that the Russian government is so blatantly abusing its power and punishing citizens for speaking their minds.

Three members of the all-girl Russian punk band Pussy Riot are currently being detained and are facing three years in prison after being arrested in February after forcing their way into a Moscow church to sing a “punk prayer” calling for the overthrow of President Vladimir Putin. A decision on their fate is due Friday, when a judge is due to deliver his verdict on charges of hooliganism.
