Watch Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready Shred the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’

On Veterans Day this past Tuesday (Nov. 11), during the MLS Cup playoff match between FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders FC, Pearl Jam‘s Mike McCready laid down the most stunning rendition of our ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ that we’ve heard in a long, long time. You can watch the performance above.

The rendition is being compared to Jimi Hendrix‘s interpretation of Francis Scott Key’s anthem, which is of course bone-chillingly good. In our humble opinion, McCready did the 200-year-old song, and Hendrix’s version, a lot of justice.

Pearl Jam seem to always be touring somewhere around the world, but for McCready to get to do this in his hometown of Seattle, it no doubt struck a chord (pun intended).

Compare his performance with Hendrix’s below — and let us know what you think about it in the comments section!
