Exclusive: The Posies Unveil ‘Radiance’ From Their First Album in Six Years, ‘Solid States’
It's difficult to find anyone who hasn't been touched by the tragic deaths of far too many immensely talented musicians in the past year. But Seattle power-pop outfit the Posies have also endured loss on a much more personal level.
Last May, the band was shattered when drummer Darius Minwalla unexpectedly died of unknown causes at age 39. This past March, former bassist Joe Skyward died after a two-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 57.
Although understandably transformed by the tragedies, core members Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow channeled their sadness into music and are set to return this month with Solid States, the Posies' first album since 2010's Blood/Candy. “I think it’s our most adventurous record to date,” they said in a press release. “There was the conscious idea to strive for something different from the Posies of past, to use different colors and flavors. That was the plan, but then life had its way with our concepts and schedules, and threw many profound, out-of-the-park curveballs in our direction."
Diffuser is proud to premiere "Radiance," a captivating new track from the album set for release May 20 via MyMusicEmpire. Auer told us the song is a direct response to Minwalla's death. "After loosing Darius last year, this was a musical and lyrical reminder to see the light at the end of the tunnel of his loss, to keep moving forward even when it was extremely difficult to do so," he said. "Time to step up to the plate and tune into the radio station in your head and heart that transmits belief instead of doubt."
