British rockers Primal Scream have scheduled a May 7 release date for ‘More Light,’ the follow-up to 2008′s ‘Beautiful Future’ and their tenth overall studio album. As NME reports, singer Bobby Gillespie announced the big news today (Feb. 1) during an interview that aired on BBC Radio 6.

“It’s a rock ‘n’ roll record, but modern rock ‘n’ roll,” Gillespie told BBC host Lauren Laverne. “Pretty psychedelic rock, it’s kind of guitar-driven but we use guitars in an orchestral way, not in the normal way people make rock records. I think we do it in a more interesting way. We weave the guitars in with electronics and other acoustic instruments to make the core sound.”

Gillespie says that he feels “validated as an artist” and believes the fact that the band has quit using drugs had a positive impact on the disc. ”The thing is, nobody’s f—ed up anymore,” he adds. “We were a bit erratic before, now we’re consistently good … if it ended tomorrow, we’d all be proud to go out on this record.”

Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant and Mark Stewart of the Pop Group are slated to make guest appearances on ‘More Light.’ The album was produced by David Holmes, who is best known for his work remixing tracks by the likes of U2 and Doves.

Primal Scream have a smattering of dates lined up in support of ‘More Light,’ including a pair of U.K. gigs in March, a May 12 appearance at Japan’s Rocks Tokyo 2013 festival and a headlining slot at the Wickerman Festival on July 26 in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
