Prince Confirmed for SXSW 2013, Playing Samsung’s Closing Party
The rumors are true: Prince is performing this week at SXSW 2013.
Yesterday, we shared rumors the Purple One would take the stage in Austin this Saturday, and now, we can confirm that the show is, in fact on, with Prince slated to headline Samsung's SXSW 2013 closing party. He'll play for a crowd of about 250 contest winners who will have used their NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy devices to gain access to the gig.
"Prince is a legend and true creative and musical genius who has been innovating and pushing the boundaries of music for over 35 years," Samsung chief marketing officer Todd Pendleton told Mashable. "Prince’s live shows are always phenomenal and I’m sure we’ll be in for some fun surprises on Saturday night."
Prince joins a slew of A-list rockers slated for this year's SXSW, including the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Green Day, Depeche Mode and Dave Grohl‘s all-star Sound City Players. As for the claim that Prince will serve as a "special guest at the podium" during a certain awards show held during music festivities in Austin this week, that one remains nothing more than speculation at this point.
