Following last week's tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., Foster the People's breakthrough smash 'Pumped Up Kicks' has apparently been removed from the playlist at Los Angeles radio station KIIS-FM. The song touches on school violence and famoulsy features the lyrics, "All the other kids with the pumped up kicks, / You better run, better run, outrun my gun / All the other kids with the pumped up kicks, / You better run, better run, faster than my bullet."

TMZ reports that the song has been pulled entirely from rotation. FTP's Mark Foster has gone on record in the past as saying that the song was inspired by the Columbine High School shooting, but that he wrote it because he wanted it to help raise more awareness about the issue of guns in schools.

Given what happened in New England last week, and the touchiness of the subject and the heated debate about gun control it's spawned, it's not surprising that 'Pumped Up Kicks' has been suspended from airplay for the time being. It's not clear if and when the song will be restored to rotation on the station.
