Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek died yesterday (May 20) at the age of 74 after a battle with bile duct cancer. As the news of his passing rippled through the music community, rock musicians took to Twitter to express their condolences and respect -- and to share their love for an artist who helped shape a generation of musicians.

Peter Hook, bassist for Joy Division and New Order, weighed in, as did seminal L.A. punk rockers X, whose first album Manzarek produced. Billy Idol shared the fact that he was happy to have had a chance to jam with Manzarek and other members of the band. Skrillex even opened up and offered a Manzarek-related memory, as his father used to play the Doors' music when he was a child.

From the personal to the professional, below are some of the tribute tweets posted by Manzarek's fellow rockers.
