Record Store Day Releases Official Date for 2015 Celebration

By now, if you've been paying any attention, it's pretty easy to guess what date Record Store Day will land on each year, and by our count, the vinyl holiday is always scheduled for the third Saturday of April. But if you're like us, that doesn't really mean much unless there's a calendar sitting right in front of you. Fortunately, the fine folks at RSD understand our frustrations, and have announced the official date for the 2015 edition of Record Store Day: April 18, 2015 (yes, the third Saturday of April).

In a simple message, RSD informed fans, "Mark your calendars, make room on your shelves. We'll see you at the record store on April 18, 2015. (And we hope we see you there before, too!)

Founded in 2007, the idea of Record Store Day was conceived by Chris Brown of Maine's premier record store, Bull Moose. "We already had this history of record stores collaborating together," Brown told us in a recent interview about the history of the event. "I felt like we needed to put something together that would, first of all, be really fun for our loyal customers who kept us thriving, and two, make a statement to everybody else who doesn't know that things are great and there is this sector that's just kicking ass. That was partly something to speak to within the music industry, but this was for the public, too."

As he eloquently states about Record Store Day, "We wanted to let people know that great store in your town would be there as long as you want it to be."

We won't know the special titles for this year's Record Store Day for another couple of months, but stay tuned -- we'll make sure to keep you up-to-date with every bit of vinyl news we get our hands on.
