When the Red Hot Chili Peppers hit the stage of Moscow’s Luzniky stadium on Sunday, singer Anthony Kiedis made sure to show his support for embattled Russian all-girl punk band Pussy Riot by wearing a T-shirt with their name on it. Three members of the group currently are being detained following a February incident during which members Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Yekaterina Samutsevich and Maria Alekhina were arrested for protesting President Vladimir Putin.

A Russian news website reported Kiedis’ wardrobe choice. The members of Pussy Riot have been held since March and could remain so at least until January following a Moscow court ruling on Friday.

The group members were detained after having forcing their way into a Moscow church to sing a “punk prayer” calling for the overthrow of Putin. They each have been charged with hooliganism and face up to seven years behind bars for their protest.

Other big Western rock bands have shown their support for Pussy Riot. Earlier this month when Faith No More had a concert in Moscow, several members of P-Riot currently not being detained appeared during the group’s encore, performing an anti-Putin song and calling for the support of their mates. Beaties Boys rapper Adam Horovitz has also pledged his support.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ current tour next touches down Wednesday in Kiev, Ukraine and returns to the States for an Aug. 4 gig at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
