‘Superman’

R.E.M.‘s single ‘Superman’ is actually a cover of a 1969 song with the same title by a Texas band called the Clique. Frontman Michael Stipe was not thrilled about covering the song, and as a result bassist Mike Mills took over as lead vocalist for this track only.

‘Superman’ is featured on the B-side to the band’s single ‘White Tornado.’ It also appeared in an episode of the third season of ‘Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.’
