Indie rock legends Johnny Marr and Ryan Adams are among a small group of artists contributing their artistic flair to a good cause. They are working with two California companies, Hurley and Fender, to raise money to bring clean water to places in need.

Marr and Adams, along with other musicians and artists like Rancid's Tim Armstrong and Incubus' Brandon Boyd, have each painted one of 20 Fender Stratocasters. Surf company Hurley started the auction of these one-of-a-kind guitars today (Oct. 24) --  it will run for eight more days.

The money will go to Waves for Water, a nonprofit that provides water filtration systems for people in places where clean drinking water is sparse. Water for Waves has already helped people in countries such as Haiti, Pakistan and Chile.
