While at Milwaukee's Riverside Theater last night (Oct. 15), Ryan Adams put together a solid set, full of hits like ‘Come Pick Me Up, ‘New York, New York’ and ‘When the Stars Go Blue.’ The highlight of the night, though? It was a brand-new song -- we’ll just call it ‘The Ballad of the Security Man.’ Watch the improvised performance in the fan-filmed video above.

This isn’t the first improv work that Adams has done. In fact, while at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco, he sang a song in tribute to a fan holding “three f---ing balloons.”

‘The Ballad of the Security Man’ was a slow rocker, full of impressive lyrics made up on the spot, like “He gotta walk the aisle the whole f---ing show / Talking ‘bout the security man / He gotta work all night with that yellow roller rink shirt on / S--t.

The song went on for nearly five minutes, much to the delight of the crowd. At the end, Adams said, “It was like every kind of music at one time, so really, nobody can complain.”

It's no surprise, but there were a few reactions to the song, and show, on Twitter, including an emphatic tweet from Adams himself:

Adams is on the road supporting his latest self-titled record, and just announced a string of additional shows for the month of December. Get the new dates here.
