Erstwhile Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland will release his next solo album -- this time supported by the backing band, the Wildabouts -- on March 31 via Softdrive Records. ‘Blaster’ is Weiland’s first solo album since 2008’s ''Happy' In Galoshes.'

Weiland wrote 11 of the 12 tracks, and the singer told Rolling Stone that he’s very excited about the forthcoming album -- more so than he has been in a long time.

“The sound we were getting felt original and infectious and brought me back to the feelings I had when I made my first couple records,” he said in the interview. “Just excitement, feeling invigorated. Youthful.”

In the intervening years since ‘’Happy’ in Galoshes,’ Weiland says that his solo sound has changed.

"'Happy’ in Galoshes’ was an experimental art record, for the most part,” he explained. “‘Blaster’ is definitely a band sound: a stripped-down, furry sound with a lot of space between notes. But it’s tight and to-the-point while keeping that garage rock vibe to it.”

If you're wondering what "furry" means," don't worry too much. “The album has its own distinctive sound,” Weiland says in an official statement, “but it also can entice those Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver fans who have stuck by me."

We'll have to wait until March for the full album, but at least Weiland and the Wildabouts will be hitting the road in late February. You can find a full list of stops below; tickets go on sale Jan. 9.
