She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel Dismisses Russell Brand Romance Rumors

Zooey Deschanel may look like Katy Perry, but that doesn’t mean she’s interested in Russell Brand! Deschanel, who sings in the indie duo She & Him with M. Ward, recently squashed rumors that she was dating the newly single British comedian, who announced his divorce from Katy Perry in late December 2011.

Deschanel also recently announced her divorce from Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard — whom she was married to for two years — but despite the newfound freedom of single life, has denied the rumors that she and Brand are romatically involved. The rumors went so far as claiming Brand has been calling her nonstop., but she says she doesn’t even know the ‘Get Him to the Greek’ actor on a friendly level.

In response to a report from OK! magazine, which cited an anonymous source who said Deschanel, 32, and Brand, 36, were dating, the ‘New Girl’ starlet told the Guardian (via MTV), “That’s complete fabrication! I don’t even know him! I maybe met him once, in passing, four years ago. And he definitely doesn’t have my phone number!” Deschanel continued, “That was a story made up by a single website. It’s crazy how that got picked up — I mean how does that even happen?”

Earlier this year, the aforementioned source told OK!, “Russell has had his eye on Zooey for a long time. And he’s been sending funny, flirty texts to see if they can get together. He thinks she’s hysterically funny and cute, too. He loves her quirky sense of humour, and thinks they’d be great together both on-and off-screen. There’s a real spark there.”

Despite this rumor igniting, Brand is actually said to be dating 25-year-old Mexican artist Oriela Medellin Amieiro. As for Deschanel? She seems to be enjoying her time as a single lady, and has been using at least part of it to write new material for She & Him.
