Sigur Ros are known for being one of the more intelligent and willfully non-commercial bands on the rock scene at the moment, but that doesn't mean they don't appreciate the value of a solid pop hook. Just ask singer Jonsi Birgisson, who tells Gigwise he has a certain fondness for Nicki Minaj, David Guetta and Rihanna.

"I really like the typical pop I hear on the radio," enthused Birgisson. "I don't buy it, but when I hear it on the radio when I'm driving I turn it up." He went on, "I like Nicki Minaj and David Guetta -- who everybody hates -- but I think he has some good songs! 'Titanium' is really good, I especially like that one. I like Rihanna too...I like Nicki Minaj too...I really like 'Superbass,' but I don't like the new one. I expected something more flamboyant and over the top."

Odds are probably pretty low that any of those influences will turn up on the band's next album, 'Voltari,' due May 28 -- but it's still nice to hear another example of an artist whose appreciation for his craft extends beyond artificially imposed genre boundaries. Hey, who knows -- perhaps someone will connect Sigur Ros with one (or all) of the artists Birgisson named for a radio-friendly 'Voltari' remix. We'd love to hear Nicki Minaj rap in Icelandic.
