DIIV’s Zachary Smith, Sky Ferreira Arrested on Multiple Drug Charges
According to a report on Pitchfork, Zachary Cole Smith of DIIV and pop singer Sky Ferreira were arrested in Saugerties, New York Friday night. The charges against the two musicians range from drug possession to driving a vehicle with stolen license plates.
Smith – who founded DIIV in 2011 and is signed to the Captured Tracks label – was “charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of aggravated unlicensed driving, all misdemeanors,” according to the Daily Freeman. The 21-year-old Ferreira is facing “misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.”
The Hudson Valley, N.Y. paper also reports that Smith was found with a “plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin,” and that Ferreira resisted arrest and “was found in possession of ecstasy.” On Saturday, DIIV performed at the BasilicaSoundScape, music festival co-presented by Pitchfork.com in Hudson, New York. Ferreira joined DIIV on stage to perform a cover of Cat Power‘s ‘Nude As the News’ at the festival.
The musicians were pulled over “after the driver made several vehicle and traffic infractions.” After pulling Smith and Ferreira over, a check showed that the license plates on the truck were stolen and that Smith was wanted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding vehicle and traffic warrant.
Smith and Ferreira were released on bail after being booked at Ulster County jail.
