Smashing Pumpkins Shine ‘The Celestials’ on ‘Leno’

The Smashing Pumpkins stopped by ‘The Late Show With Jay Leno’ on Thursday (Aug. 23) to offer up a performance of ‘The Celestials,’ a tune off their recently released “album within an album” ‘Oceania.’ Opening with guitarist Jeff Schroeder playing a simple synth progression accompanied by frontman Billy Corgan’s cleanly strummed Fender Strat, the tune starts off sparse, slowly and ballad-like, gradually picking up tempo and finally rocking out a bit about two minutes in when Corgan steps on his distortion pedal. Quite smashing!
