The Smiths' third studio album, 1986's The Queen Is Dead, is returning to stores with added tracks and a fresh remaster.

Details of the upcoming release, reportedly scheduled for Oct. 20, were initially tracked down by the Morrissey-Solo fan forum, where alert users pointed out early pre-order links at Amazon's U.K. site. The deluxe The Queen Is Dead seems to be coming as a double-disc set as well as a CD/DVD box, and although details of the latter package have yet to surface, Amazon's track listing for the former reveals a slew of demos and previously unreleased cuts.

The timing of the reissue has been a public point of contention for former Smiths frontman Morrissey, who claimed last year that he'd urged the band's label to put it out in time for its 30th anniversary, to no avail. "It would not quite be the Smiths if not classically ignored by the dried-out lawns of the establishment," he quipped. "I urged Warner UK to issue a special ‘The Queen Is Dead’ single release for the first week of June … but … brick wall."
