Typically, we give away free MP3s by up-and-coming artists -- many of them synth-toting young Brooklynites -- but this morning, we've got something different. Next Tuesday (Oct. 23), Chicago pop-punk stalwarts the Smoking Popes reissue their breakthrough 1994 sophomore album 'Born to Quit' via SideOneDummy, and we're offering up the band's cover of Willie Nelson's 'Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground,' one of two previously unreleased bonus tracks included with the new edition.

Described as "extraordinary, the most lovable thing I’d heard in years" by none other than Morrissey, whose voice shares much in common with that of Popes singer Josh Caterer, 'Born to Quit' spawned the hit single 'Need You Around,' which wound up on the era-defining 'Clueless' soundtrack. The re-released version features deluxe packaging, remastered audio and expanded liner notes -- as well as the Popes' Midwestern punk take on a certain country favorite.

"Willie Nelson is a true musical hero," Caterer tells Diffuser.fm. "A great singer, inspired guitar player, masterful songwriter. And he does it all with a totally unique creative vision that refuses to be put in a box. Someday I'd like to do a full-length Willie tribute album. But for now, this humble interpretation of one of his classics will have to suffice."
