Of all the current animated TV shows out there ('Adventure Time, 'Regular Show,' etc.) enjoyed by kids and stoners alike, we never figured that the granddaddy of the new crop, 'SpongeBob SquarePants,' would be the one to work so well with the greatest comic book of all time.

But we're happy to be proven wrong by the most excellent 'SpongeMen SquareWatch,' a two-minute video that nails both 'SpongeBob SquarePants'' character roots and 'Watchmen''s existential crises. You can watch it above and geek out like we did.

Created by El-Cid, the clip turns SpongeBob faves like Patrick, Squidward and the yellow, porous pineapple dweller into brooding 'Watchmen' characters such as the Comedian, Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach.

It's quite brilliant, especially when it gets into the rhythm of a typical 'SpongeBob' episode -- like the "One Second Later" fast-forward in action and the abrupt shifts in animation style. Plus, it's nice to see Sandy throw out some karate chops that actually do some damage to her opponents. Blood and fish guts splattering everywhere? Bring it on!
