Stars of the Lid, the Austin-based ambient/drone outfit consisting of musicians Brian McBride and Adam Wiltzie, are re-releasing their two most recent records on vinyl – both of which had gone out of print.

The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid – the group's sixth long player which was released in 2001 – introduced more instrumentation to a sound that until then had been dominated by guitars and field recordings.

2007's And Their Refinement of the Decline is a slight departure from the long drone pieces the band continues to be known for. "Perhaps the best references for this current work would be found in the score to the film Le Mepris by Georges Delerue, the orchestral works of Zbigniew Preisner, or the 1958 CSO/ Fritz Reiner recording of Hovhaness' Mysterious Mountain, specifically the third movement," reads Kranky's description of the record.

Both albums will be released as triple LPs via Kranky, and will be available starting August 14. You can stream "December Hunting for Vegetarian F--kface," off And Their Refinement of the Decline, below. If you're sleepy, we recommend drinking a cup of coffee first.

Even by their own timetable, SOTL are a bit overdue for a new release, but the group say they're working on new material. The band, who rarely performs live, are playing tomorrow night in Toronto, at the Unsound Festival, and in September at Pop Montreal.
